Guidelines on Research Project Application
On the policy of the "Being open, fluidic and cooperative", The Key laboratary of Synthetic Biology (KLSB) warmly opens to the Chinese and foreign scientists. The Laboratory aims at the cutting-edge research in synthetic biology to address global challenges in areas related to energy, human health and the environment. The research subjects include characterization and design of functional biological parts, processing systems and organisms, production of biomaterial and energy molecules through modification and synthesis of biosystems as well as innovation of synthetic biology technology. Current research is going along the following three lines: 1. Assembly of large DNA fragments based on site-specific recombination system; 2. High-throughput DNA synthesis with micro-fluid chip.
The content of research projects for application must belong to the above areas, and with close relation to the current research projects. Chinese and foreign scientists with doctoral degrees or with a title equal or equivalent to or above assistant professor engaging in the study of synthetic biology may propose an application (The application from the Ph.D students in study is not accepted in principle). The applicants should have a certain advanced academic level, a sound research basis in their applied areas, and their research plans must be feasible.
Applicants may ask for an application form from KLSB, fill and print it with a computer. Applicants must send the copies of the application form (6 copies) with their curricula vitae and two recommendation letters before September 30 each year to KLSB. The computer version must be sent by express mail or through E-mail. After the first deliberation by specialists the applications will be carefully screened and selectedby the Academic Committee of KLSB. After getting the approval of the director and chairman of Academic Committee of KLSB the applicants are accepted as visiting scholars. Certain grant supports will be provided in accordance with the current level of funding.
